Water Margin," starring Yuji Oda, depicts the struggles of outcasts and is one of the three great Chinese classic books along with "Sanguozhi Yanyi" and "Journey to the West. It is a magnificent ensemble drama in which outlaws who defied an unreasonable world gather under the banner of "will", and has been widely popular in Japan since the Edo period. Suikoden" by Kenzo Kitakata (Shueisha), on which the drama series "Kenzo Kitakata: Suikoden" is based, is a milestone of epic novels with a total of 11.6 million copies sold. The conflicts, pride, and fighting spirit of the characters in "Suikoden" are reworked from a modern perspective, breathing new life into the original work. The film stars Oda as the main character Sung Kang, along with Kazuya Kamenashi, Shinnosuke Mitsushima, Haru, Takashi Sorimachi, and others. The film depicts the struggles of "outcasts" against a corrupt world, along with their "anger toward unreasonable power" and "bonds with friends. The music is composed by Toshiyuki Muranaka, who also wrote the music for the animated TV series "MARS RED" and the music readings "READING HIGH" and "VOICARION", and arranged "Ryomaden Kiko III" from the NHK historical drama "Ryomaden".
はみ出し者たちの闘いを織田裕二主演で描き出す 「三国志演義」「西遊記」と並ぶ中国三大奇書の1つ「水滸伝」。理不尽な世の中に抗ったアウトローたちが"志の旗"の下に集う壮大な群像劇であり、日本でも江戸時代から広く親しまれている。 そして、連続ドラマ「北方謙三 水滸伝」の原作となる北方謙三氏の「水滸伝」 (集英社)は、シリーズ累計発行部数1160万部を超える大河小説の金字塔。「水滸伝」の登場人物たちの葛藤や誇り、闘志を現代的な視点で描き直し、原作に新たな命を吹き込んだ作品となる。 本作では、主演の織田が主人公・宋江 (そうこう)を演じ、そのほか亀梨和也、満島真之介、波瑠、反町隆史らが出演。腐敗した世に抗う"はみ出し者"たちの闘いを、「理不尽な権力への怒り」や「仲間との絆」とともに描いていく。 音楽は、テレビアニメ「MARS RED」や音楽朗読劇「READING HIGH」や「VOICARION」の作曲、NHK大河ドラマ「龍馬伝」より『龍馬伝紀行III』をアレンジした村中俊之が担当。
